Aliko Dangote is a Nigerian entrepreneur, industrialist, and philanthropist, widely recognized as one of Africa's greatest business builders. Born on April 10, 1957, in Kano, Nigeria, he grew up in a family with a strong entrepreneurial tradition, where he developed an early passion for business.
After studying Business Administration at Al-Azhar University in Cairo, he founded a trading company in 1977, specializing in sugar, rice, and cement. However, Dangote soon realized that Africa's long-term prosperity would not come from trade alone, but from producing and transforming its own resources.
Driven by this vision, he established the Dangote Group, a multinational conglomerate operating across industries including cement, sugar, flour, salt, fertilizers, petrochemicals, energy, and logistics. Under his leadership, the company became Africa's largest cement producer and played a key role in reducing the continent's dependence on imports.
One of his most ambitious achievements is the Dangote Refinery, the world's largest single-train refinery. The project represents a major milestone toward Nigeria's energy independence and demonstrates Africa's ability to deliver world-class industrial infrastructure.
Beyond business, Dangote has dedicated significant resources to education, healthcare, poverty alleviation, and humanitarian initiatives through the Dangote Foundation.
